About Run Down
Title
About Run Down
Description
A man ("VOTER") sits on a stool, smoking a cigarette and looking at a comically large pocketwatch, tagged "THE CAMPAIGN". His hand is to his chin, and he says, "C'MON- HURRY UP!" as the hands of the watch point to "4TH WEEK". Papers lay all about him on the floor: "VOTE FOR ME" with an image of a moustached man; "MY RECORD IN OFFICE"; "SPEECH DELIVERED IN CONGRESS BY-"; "CAMPAIGN DOCUMENT"; "DEAR VOTER- HAVING BEEN DULY NOMINATED BY THE DEMO"; "G.O.P. MASS MEETING CONVENTION HALL"; "FOR SENATOR HON. A DOOLITTLE" ( ); "GRAND DEMOCRACY RALLY"; "HAVE YOU REGISTERED?"; "SEND YOUR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION TO TREASURER OF". Campaign buttons also scatter the floor as a paper labelled "VOTE" pops out of VOTER's pocket. Above the seemingly distressed man come out like rays other sayings between the "TICK-TICK-TICK"s of the clock, all of which appear to be pointed towards Alfred E. Smith, who was associated with the Tammany Hall political machine: "TAMMANY" (refering to Tammany Hall- the NY political organization); "LA-DEES AN' GENTLEMEN-"; "THE TARIFF IS THE MAINSTAY OF PROSPERITY- VOTE FOR ME"; "GRAFT!" (intentionally misdirected funds); "DO YOU WANT TO TAMMANYIZE THE STATE?"; "A VOTE FOR MY OPPONENT IS A VOTE FOR A RETURN TO THE SOUP KITCHEN!"; "WET-DRY"; "FREE TRADE!"; "DON'T TIE CAL'S HANDS!" (refering to the then-president, Calvin Coolidge, Republican); "MILK!" (referring potentially to the image of Coolidge with a cow on a farm? Or maybe for his fondness of milk?); "IT'S TH' BUNK!".
